Frequently asked questions.

Everything engineers and managers ask us about InstrumentPackage — the product, your data, licensing, and getting started.

Getting started

What is InstrumentPackage?
InstrumentPackage is a Windows desktop application that turns your project inputs — site photos, existing drawings, datasheets, and a short scope — into a coordinated first draft of an instrumentation engineering package. You can then question the package, request edits in plain language, and have approved changes applied across every affected deliverable at once.
Who is the product designed for?
Instrumentation and controls (I&C / E&I) engineers, designers, and engineering firms who produce instrumentation work packages — from single-discipline consultants to EPC project teams. If your week includes datasheets, loop drawings, instrument indexes, or construction work packages, InstrumentPackage was built for you.
What are the capabilities of InstrumentPackage?
Today the app generates and coordinates the core instrumentation deliverables: instrument datasheets, loop drawings, instrument indexes, construction work package (CWP) documents, and supporting package pages. The built-in AI assistant can answer questions about your package, apply edits across affected documents, and work from client and plant profiles so output matches each customer's standards. All output is a draft for review — every document must be verified and signed off by a qualified Professional Engineer before use.
How do I download and install the software?
After you subscribe, your welcome email contains your license key and a Download for Windows button (the same download link appears on the purchase confirmation page). Run the installer, then open InstrumentPackage and enter your license key when prompted. Windows SmartScreen may show a "Windows protected your PC" notice for new publishers — click More info → Run anyway to proceed.
Do I need to create an account to purchase?
No. Checkout is handled by our merchant of record, Creem — you enter your email and payment details, and your receipt, license key, and a self-serve subscription portal link arrive by email. There is no separate username or password to manage.
Do I have to choose or configure an AI model?
No configuration is required. With an active subscription, the AI assistant works out of the box through our managed service. If you prefer to keep everything on your own machine, an optional local model mode (Ollama) is available in File → Settings.

Data & security

How do I know my data is safe?
Your project files live on your own computer — InstrumentPackage is a desktop application, not a web app that stores your documents on our servers. AI requests are sent securely over encrypted connections only when you use the assistant, and you can use local model mode (Ollama) to keep every byte on your machine. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Where does my data go?
Documents you create are saved locally on your computer. When you use the AI assistant, the relevant content of your request is transmitted to the AI model provider to generate the response, then returned to you — it is customer-owned data throughout. In local (Ollama) mode, nothing leaves your computer at all.
Is my data used to train AI models?
No. Your engineering data is used to serve your requests, not to train models. Data ownership stays with you and your clients.

Licensing & billing

How much does it cost?
Early access is currently $1 USD per month while we onboard founding subscribers. See the Pricing section for current plans.
How many computers can I use my license on?
Each license key can be activated on a small number of computers (for example, your office workstation and a laptop). If you hit the activation limit or replace a machine, you can deactivate the old computer from More → License & Subscription inside the app, or contact support and we'll sort it out.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Anytime, in about a minute: open the receipt email from your purchase and click View Order to reach your customer portal, where you can cancel or manage billing. Your license remains active until the end of the period you've already paid for.
What happens when my subscription ends?
The app's AI features lock when your subscription lapses. Your documents remain on your computer and are yours to keep — you simply can't generate or AI-edit new content until you resubscribe. Renewing is the same as purchasing: subscribe on our website and activate the new key.
Can I get a refund?
Our Refund Policy covers this in detail. If something isn't working for you, contact us first — most issues are solvable, and we'd rather fix your problem than lose you.
Can I get an invoice or receipt for my company?
Yes — a receipt is emailed automatically after every payment, and past invoices are available in the customer portal (the View Order link in your receipt email).

Using the product

If I have a question, how do I get support?
Email info@instrumentpackage.com or call +1-(204)-806-4139. You can also use the contact form. We respond fastest by email, and replying to your welcome email works too.
I want customized customer documents. How do I get a profile made?
Client and plant profiles let the app generate documents to a specific customer's standards — title blocks, formats, reviewer roles, and preferences. To have a profile set up for your client, contact us with the client's standards or example documents and we'll help you build the profile. Profiles can also be edited in-app under Edit → Customer Profile.
Does InstrumentPackage work offline?
Document viewing and editing work offline. The AI assistant needs an internet connection in managed mode (with a short offline grace period for license checks), or you can run fully offline using local model mode (Ollama).
How do updates work?
The app checks for updates and keeps itself current — no manual reinstalls needed. Release notes for significant versions are posted on our blog.
What are the system requirements?
A 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 computer with an internet connection for activation and AI features. No special hardware is required for managed AI mode; local (Ollama) mode benefits from a more powerful machine.
Is the software compatible with iOS or Mac?
Currently in development. InstrumentPackage ships for Windows today; follow our blog or social channels for platform announcements.
Is AI-generated engineering output safe to issue directly?
No — and we're direct about this. Everything InstrumentPackage produces is a draft. All documents must be independently reviewed, verified, and signed off by a qualified Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) before use. The product exists to eliminate repetitive drafting work, not professional judgment.
